Scribe 10/10/13 Period 3

Today in class we did our debate on which rhetorical device, Ethos, Pathos, or Logos, was the most important and effective in the movie Kony 2012. Throughout the debate, we filled out a debate rubric on how well we thought our group did on different parts of the debate and were assigned to complete it as homework if we did not finish in it class.

Mrs. Smith also handed out the new book we will be reading which is A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah. Once the books were checked out to all students, Mrs. Smith introduced the class to the fishbowl. Students will need to sign up for groups as you are expected to participate in the fishbowl at least once. For the first fishbowl, Mrs. Smith will do a model so we may get an understanding of what they are like and the rest they will be run by the students.

For homework tonight, we are expected to read the first two chapters of A Long Way Gone and annotate both while starting to come up with three main question that we had over the first five chapters. For the annotations, Mrs. Smith recommends that we make connections between Othello and A Long Way Gone, come up with higher level thinking questions, etc. We also have the SAT 7 quiz tomorrow, so remember to study! All the words and definitions can be found through this link, although the parts of speech and synonyms for each word are not posted.
